COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
JUICE, PRUNE, CANNED
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
1. SCOPE.
1.1. This Commercial Item Description (CID) covers canned prune juice, packed in commercially acceptable containers, suitable for use by Federal, State, and local governments and other interested parties.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Processing : The canned prune juice shall be prepared from a water extract from properly dried, matured, sound, wholesome, whole prunes in accordance with the requirements as specified in the ‘U.S, Standard of Identity for Canned Fruit Juices, 21 CFR 146.187.
2.2 Finished product: The canned prune juice shall be sued and packed as specified in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order.
2.3 Flavoring ingredients: Flavoring ingredients such as lemon juice, lime juice and citric acid, or combination of either one may be added. The tamed prune juice may also contain honey and be fortified with ascorbic acid.
